Shared Space? Extra Grace: Navigating Overnight Storage with Wombi

Where your Wombi sleeps at night is the most important part of your subscription. When it comes to e-bike security, location is everything. A bike parked in a high-risk area is much more likely to be targeted, which is why we’re getting more intentional about our storage requirements.

While we’d love for every bike to be tucked away inside a private residence, we know that urban life often means shared spaces.

Why Location Matters

Data shows that bikes stored in shared or semi-public areas are at a higher risk of theft. To keep your ride safe, we’ve categorized storage into "Gold Standard" (inside your home) and "Publicly Accessible."

What is "Publicly Accessible Storage"?

If you keep your bike in a communal bike room, a shared apartment garage, a gated patio, or a fenced backyard, it’s considered "Publicly Accessible." Because these spots are accessible to people outside your immediate household, they require a higher level of security hardware.

Maximum Protection for Shared Spaces

For new riders starting August 2026, if you use Publicly Accessible storage, you’ll be required to add Maximum Protection Hardware to your subscription. For just $10/mo, we provide you with a heavy-duty Granit lock—an absolute tank of a lock designed specifically for the higher-risk nature of shared locations.

The "No-Go" Zone

Because location is the #1 factor in bike safety, overnight storage on public sidewalks or transit hubs is strictly prohibited. Leaving a bike on the street overnight is an "Event of Default." If a bike is stolen from a prohibited location, the rider is responsible for the full retail value.

Protecting Your Ride

To keep your theft protection active in a shared room, just follow the "Location Rules":

  1. Be Honest About Your Spot: If it's a shared room, upgrade to the Maximum Protection Hardware.
  2. Lock Up: Always use the 3-Step Locking Protocol (Chain, Wheel Lock, Alarm).
  3. Snap a Pic: Capture your nightly photo to prove your bike is sleeping safe and sound.

Not sure if your garage counts as "shared"? Give us a shout! We’re here to help you find the safest location for your Wombi.
